Im Mittelpunkt der speziellen Kompetenzen von Prof. Fahlbusch stehen die Hypophysentumore (Hypophysenadenome, Kraniopharyngiome, u. a.), von denen er über 4000 Patienten operiert, sowie vor und nach der Operation betreut hat. Prof. Fahlbusch zählt international zu den erfahrensten Experten auf diesem Gebiet (Publikationen siehe PubMed). Er ist Ehrenmiglied der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Endokrinologie, Mitglied im Beirat „Netzwerk Hypophyse“, Vorstandsmitglied im Kraniopharyngiom-Forum.

Die Versorgung dieser Patienten erfordert spezielle Erkenntnisse in der Endokrinologie, der Ophthalmologie, der radiologischen Diagnostik und der operativen Behandlung von Tumoren im Bereich des Hypothalamus und der Hirnanhangdrüse.

Erstgespräche mit Patienten dienen vor allem der initialen Diagnostik und Besprechung der therapeutischen Optionen mit den Patienten. Die Behandlung kann in einer operativen Behandlung, einer medikamentösen Behandlung oder einer Radiotherapie bestehen, es kann beim entsprechenden Fall jedoch auch zu einer abwartenden konservativen Behandlung geraten werden.

Es handelt sich um hochspezialisierte Operationen (minimal invasiv / endoskopisch), die besonders im Bereich von Hypophyse und Hypothalamus wegen der zum Teil risikohaften Behandlung eine spezielle Aufklärung erforderlich machen.

PD Dr. med G. Baltsavias is the Director of Endovascular Neurosurgery at the INI – International Neuroscience Institute® in Hannover.

He is a neurosurgeon specialized in neuroendovascular operations (embolizations).

Dr. Baltsavias completed his basic neurosurgical training in Greece at General hospital of Athens in 1997 and subsequently received his neuroendovascular training in several leading centers of Interventional Neuroradiology – Endovascular Neurosurgery, at

He founded and served as the Head of the Neuroendovascular Unit at the Interbalkan European Medical Center, Thessaloniki, Greece from 2001 to 2008.

During this period, he completed the distinguished PL Lasjaunias’s Master Course in Neurovascular Diseases (2005-7). In the same frame, he completed his Dissertation on endovascular treatment of giant basilar aneurysms at Service de Neuroradiologie, Hôpital Lariboisière, Paris, France (2007) under Prof. E. Houdart and he was granted the Diplome InterUniversitaire – International Diploma in Neurovascular Disease from Paris XI Sud University and Mahidol University in 2007.

In 2009, Dr. Baltsavias was appointed Oberarzt at the eminent Institute of Neuroradiology, University Hospital Zurich, under Prof. A. Valavanis. In this department, he completed his Medical Doctorate in 2011. In 2016, his Habilitation on Dural Arteriovenous Fistulae was approved by the Medical School of Zurich University and the “venia legendi” was bestowed. Since then and until October 2017, Dr. Baltsavias served as Leitender Arzt and the Head of Interventional Neuroradiology in the department of Neuroradiology, University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland.

Since November 2017, he is the Director of Endovascular Neurosurgery at the INI – International Neuroscience Institute® in Hannover, Germany.

PD Dr. med G. Baltsavias is an expert with great experience in the whole spectrum of endovascular treatment of Neurovascular diseases and Head and Neck vascular pathologies and more specifically in:

• Cerebral aneurysms
• Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM)
• Cranial Dural Arteriovenous Fistulae (CDAVF)
• Acute Ischemic Stroke Thrombectomies
• Arteriovenous Shunts and Malformations of the V. Galen in newborns and children
• Spinal Arteriovenous Malformations (SAVM) Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistulae (SDAVF)
• Stenosis of Neck and Intracranial Vessels
• Traumatic Arteriovenous Fistulae of the Head and Neck
• Hemangiomas and Vascular Malformations of the Head, Face and Neck
• Vascular Tumors of the Brain, Skull base and Neck, i.e. Meningiomas, Hemangioblastomas, Glomus Tumors, Neurinomas, Juvenile Angiofibromas etc.

Baltsavias has been invited in numerous international meetings, workshops and congresses as a speaker. He is a reviewer of several international medical journals as Neurology, AJNR – American Journal of Neuroradiology, Neurosurgical review, Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, Interventional Neuroradiology, European Journal of Neurology, BMJ Case reports etc.

He is a member of the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology, European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, American Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Swiss Neuroradiological Society, Hellenic Neurosurgical Society.

Since May 2014, Prof. Concezio Di Rocco has moved to Hannover, Germany to become the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at the INI – International Neuroscience Institute®, Prof. Di Rocco is an internationally recognized pediatric neurosurgeon who has performed more that 12,000 neurosurgical operations on brain and spinal cord tumors, hydrocephalus, arachnoid cysts, congenital malformations, craniosynostosis, cerebral and spine malformations ( hemimegalencephaly, cortical dysplasia, lipomyelomeningocele, myelomeningocele, spinal lipoma, Chiari type I malformation), neurophacomatoses, and epileptic disorders.

Prof Di Rocco has been President of The International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN), President of The European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ESPN), Vice-President of the European Association of Neurosurgical Society (EANS), Chairman of the Pediatric Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS). Director of the Department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurosciences and of the Department of Neurosciences of the Catholic University Medical School , Rome.

Director of the Institute of Neurosurgery and Speciality School in Neurosurgery, Catholic Unversity Medical School, Rome Winner of the first and only Chair in Pediatric Neurosurgery in Italy.

Prof Di Rocco is Specialist in Neurosurgery and Pediatrics His scientific and clinical activities are testified by more than 390 articles in international peer reviewed journals, books and chapters in books He is the main Editor of Childs’s Nervous System, the Official Journal of the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery, European Journal for Pediatric Neurosurgery, Japanese Society for Pediatric Neurosurgey, Korean Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery, Brasilian Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery.

Prof. Dr. med. Helmut Bertalanffy ist Direktor der Klinik für Vaskuläre Neurochirurgie am INI – International Neuroscience Institute® in Hannover. Seine berufliche Ausbildung absolvierte Prof. Bertalanffy an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg/Breisgau unter der Leitung von Prof. Wolfgang Seeger. Prof. Bertalanffy promovierte 1986 und erwarb die Anerkennung als Facharzt für Neurochirurgie im Jahre 1990. Als Stipendiat der Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung in Bonn und der Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in Tokio/Japan, verweilte Prof. Bertalanffy mehr als zwei Jahre an der Neurochirurgischen Klinik der Keio-Universität in Tokio (1990-1992), mit den Hauptarbeitsgebieten der zerebralen und spinalen Mikrozirkulationen sowie der Schädelbasischirurgie.

Bei seiner Rückkehr nach Deutschland übernahm Prof. Bertalanffy die Funktion des Leitenden Oberarztes in der Neurochirurgischen Klinik der Rheinisch-Westfälischen Technischen Hochschule Aachen an der Seite vom damaligen Klinikdirektor Prof. Joachim Gilsbach und habilitierte erfolgreich im Jahre 1994. Im selben Jahr wurde ihm von der Friedrich-Wilhelm-Stiftung der RWTH Aachen für herausragende wissenschaftliche Leistungen der “Friedrich-Wilhelm-Preis” verliehen.

Ende 1996 erhielt Prof. Bertalanffy – verbunden mit einer Professur auf Lebenszeit – die Berufung von der Philipps-Universität Marburg auf den Lehrstuhl der Neurochirurgie. Er leitete die Neurochirurgische Klinik zehn Jahre lang als Ordinarius für Neurochirurgie und Klinikdirektor vom Mai 1997 bis Juni 2007. Im Juli 2007 folgte er einem erneuten Ruf auf den Lehrstuhl für Neurochirurgie der Universität Zürich und war dort dreieinhalb Jahre als Direktor tätig. Durch die Funktion des Direktors, die Prof. Bertalanffy im November 2010 am renommierten INI – International Neuroscience Institute® Hannover übernahm, erschaffte er das Zentrum für Vaskuläre Neurochirurgie.

Beruhend auf seine wissenschaftlichen Beiträge auf den Gebieten der Vaskulären Neurochirurgie, der Mikrochirurgie von Hirnstammläsionen, sowie der Schädelbasischirurgie wird Prof. Bertalanffy häufig als Gastredner an zahlreichen internationalen Kongressen sowie an weltweiten neurochirurgischen Einrichtungen eingeladen.

Prof. Bertalanffy ist Mitglied der Deutschen und der Schweizer Gesellschaften für Neurochirurgie, der Deutschen Akademie für Neurochirurgie, der World Academy of Neurosurgery, der Skull Base und Nominating Committees der World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (ehemaliger Vorsitzender des Nominating Committee der WFNS), des International Advisory Board of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, der Academia Eurasiana, sowie Korrespondierendes Mitglied der American Academy of Neurological Surgeons und Ehrenmitglied der Rumänischen Gesellschaft für Neurochirurgie.

Er ist Schriftleiter (Editor-in-Chief) der wissenschaftlichen Zeitschrift Neurosurgical Review und begutachtet eingereichte Manuskripte für Neurosurgery, Acta Neurochirurgica, Techniques in Neurosurgery, Neurologia Medico-chirurgica und Zentralblatt für Neurochirurgie.

Die Publikationsliste von Prof. Bertalanffy umfasst über 150 Originalarbeiten in begutachteten Zeitschriften, mehr als 50 Buchkapitel und andere fachliche Beiträge. Er hat über 300 wissenschaftliche Vorträge an diversen Kongressen und Symposien weltweit gehalten. Prof. Bertalanffy ist verheiratet und hat zwei erwachsene Töchter.
